A Movie Poster That's Totally Photoshop...

A sequel that is best left aired on television...

In 1998, HBO's Sex And The City features stories of four professional working women in New York. In their mid thirties and one on forties, they explore topics of socially relevant issues like safe sex, sexually transmitted disease and promiscuity. It was also an featured as "100 Best TV Shows of All Time" (by Time's Magazine).

Now, I have never seen a single episode of this 94 episodes (that ended in 2004) nor did I see the first 2008 film movie version. I had skipped all that and gotten free tickets to watch this year's sequel and since it is free and my girlfriend enjoys the show, I was curious what this movie is all about.

For 2 hours and 24 minutes, I realize now that the sequel to the hit television series... should have released this sequel to a television two parter TV special.

Before I give my reason, watch the trailer below.

From the beginning, we get a small glimpse of how Carrie Bradshaw (played by Sarah Jessica Parker) in the 80s make friends with Miranda Hobbes (played by Cynthia Nixon), Charlotte York (played by Kristin Davis) and Samantha Jones (played by  Kim Cattrall) in New York City. Shifted to a same sex-wedding of their friends Stanford Blatch (played by Willie Garson) and Anthony Marentino (played by Mario Cantone). The four ladies together with their husbands, and three of them share some current problems they are facing - Carrie with not know what marriage life is really about and wanting to go back to the life she once was, Miranda got tied up with work and did not spend enough time with her family and Charlotte getting worries about her new nanny Erin (played by Alice Eve) that handles so well with her children compare to her. When Samantha got an invitation to go to Abu Dhabi on a job opportunity to device a PR campaign for a business by a rich Arab sheikh, Samantha invites her friends to go there and enjoy a nice vacation and ends with some unexpected outcome.

Like I said before I have not watch any single Sex And The City episodes or the first movie, watching a sequel sort of give me an update on what is going on and who is who. So after about 30 minutes of the film, I felt something was not right.

It does not feel like a movie.

As time goes by, there are some scenes which were not fit to be as a film but rather as a television episode - or I should say a two episode special. Everything on the 1st 1/2 of the film feels like it was made for television. And then, there is the punchlines which was one too many. Some scenes which talks about emotional matters does not fit and then of course, a little too long a scene act that is best cut short.

All in all, it feels nothing and partly no reason any fans would want to watch the sequel on a big screen. The movie has a few flaws of its own but entertaining wise, the movie holds its own in not a very good way. Though you can see the actors are aging, they do carry the film as their own counterpart.

Sarah Jessica Parker truly done well as Carrie Bradshaw, unlike her previous movie "Did You Hear About The Morgans?" with co-star Hugh Grant. This is probably what she does best as an actress for this role that given her the Best Actress award from Globe, Emmy and Screen Actor's Guild. Cynthia Nixon as Miranda looks like the role she should be while Kristin Davis as Charlotte, well is nothing much anything interesting to know about. Kim Cattrall on the other hand as Samantha truly age a lot. The movie poster left something to be desire since the controversial photoshop of the actress. In the sequel, she looks tired and old but still got what it takes to allure the younger men. Chris Noth as Mr.Big, well... he is one that truly shows what married becomes. John Corbett returns as an old-flame to Carrie but his screen time was short. Guess appearance of Liza Minnelli, Miley Cyrus and Penelope Cruz did a short but welcoming cameos.

While director Michael Patrick King confirms there will be a 2nd sequel with a final fourth film in the works, Sex And The City 2 is not a movie a fan should go watch and pay your hard earn money to enjoy it. This is best left and wait until when it is available for rental on DVD or Blu-Ray, where fans can enjoy it more on their own television set.

I really enjoyed the movie, but to be honest, I loved the series SATC so much, I'd be happy for them just to keep rolling out the movies to see where the characters' lives go. It's hard for a diehard fan to let go. But if you were not a fan of the series, I can't imagine the SATC movies would appeal at all. I actually found the way they started the first movie by summarizing the end of the series really annoying because I thought surely the only people seeing this, would be fans of the show and know all this already!
